The Year 5 children that remained in school still managed to enjoy skipping day - Scarborough’s famous tradition. Tuesday March 5th 2019
February 2019 As part of their World Wars Topic, Year 5’s have been creating Anderson shelters. These were used to save civilians from the Blitz from 1941 to 1942. They have created their own designs and executed them, problem solving along the way!
January 2019 Year 5 have been looking at different properties of materials. Recently we have been looking at the properties of Thermal Insulation and Thermal Conduction. Using this knowledge we can then answer the question “Which material keeps the heat in a coffee mug the longest?” This has led to year 5’s running an experiment where they test how long the temperature of boiling water takes to drop in different types of mugs. See the images of them mid-experiment.
January 2019 Year 5 have begun a project where they are painting in the style of Joseph Turner. Their challenge is to create a World War II scene in his style – blurry and bright!
January 2019 Class 11 have been organising materials according to their properties using Venn diagrams. They had to choose what property the material had and if there are any other materials with similar properties.
