On Monday the 12th of March, six year six children went to Scarborough town hall with Mrs Burlingham, Mrs Vickerman and Mrs Pacey.
We were asked to attend to help with the ceremony of the raising of the Commonwealth flag.
We were shown into the council chambers.
Zain and Shannon were the first to help, they extinguished the 4 candles on the top table for the Mayor.
Next it was Ruby and Jamie’s turn, they went and stood on the platform and read together, in front of the Mayor, town councillors, cadets and flag bearers. Councillors turned round to Mrs Burlingham and said they had read extremely well, as there were a lot of very tricky long words in the piece they had to read. Mrs B told them that they had only read once through it, before they delivered it to everyone.
Finally Lewis and Jenson went out to the front and received the Commonwealth flag from the Mayor.
This has been brought back to school and raised on the school flag pole.
After the ceremony we were all offered a drink and biscuit.
The Mayor came to thank us all and asked if we would like for him to show us around. We all said, “Yes please”.
We had our photos taken with the Mayor in the different rooms with different artefacts.
