Barrowcliff School - Newsletter
February 2012 - Spring Term 1
Dear Reader,
Parking
Can we remind all parents to park sensibly and considerately when dropping off or collecting children from school.
Please avoid parking in front of drives or garages.
Obviously the safety of the children outside the school premises is of paramount importance to us and we would appreciate your co-operation to
ensure that Health & Safety aspects are observed at all times.
Pedestrian Access to School
Pedestrian access to school is via the gates on Ash Grove.
At the moment the gates on Hatterboard Drive are awaiting repair and remain open. We would request that parents DO NOT USE this entrance as you are entering a car park. We obviously cannot enforce this rule but would point out that if you do use the entrance on Hatterboard Drive for pedestrian access you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK.
World Book Day
Thursday 1st March 2012
We have always tried to make this a special day for children, with a huge celebration of books at an assembly from 2.30 p.m. for Y1-6. Children can dress up as a character from a book but this doesn’t have to involve an elaborate costume – they could wear one item from the character and see if we can guess who they are pretending to be. If they don’t want to dress as a character then they can bring in a favourite book to show to friends. Children can dress as a character all day or get dressed at lunchtime if they wish.
Please try to ensure that the costume relates to a book or character – no slippers and pyjamas please.
Every child will receive a £1 voucher, which can be used in Scarborough.
Parents’ Consultation Evenings
Monday 19th March & Tuesday 21st March
Appointment letters will be sent out to parents nearer the time.
Attendance Cup
Each week the KS2 classes compete for the Attendance Cup. This is awarded to the class with the best attendance each week. Please ensure that your child arrives in school on time as even a “Late” mark could mean that a class loses out on the Cup.
Book Club
KS2 children can save with Book Club, which is held every Wednesday atbreaktime. Money saved can be used towards books bought at the Bookfairs, which are held throughout the year.
Dogs – School Grounds
If you are a dog owner can you please ensure that your dog is not allowed access to the school at any time.
This is a NYCC rule that we must enforce and applies to all dogs.
Language
We have received comments from both children and parents that they have heard adults using inappropriate language while walking to school and on school grounds.
Can we please thank the vast majority of adults, both parents and visitors, who ensure that they remain aware of the language they use when in or around the school.
I can’t control what happens out of school but would ask that we all respect the wishes of our children.
Use of inappropriate language in school isn’t acceptable and could mean that adults are restricted from coming onto the site.
Titanic Day
A huge thank you to the Year 5 and 6 parents for creating some outstanding costumes. We all had a wonderful day that I am sure the children will remember for many years – if only for Lady Rosalind’s performance.
Fairytale Day
This was a huge success with Y1. Thank you for supporting your children – we had some very beautiful Princesses and charming Princes.
School Charity of the Year
It has been decided by the School Council that the RNLI will be this year’s charity.
We hope to support the Scarborough Branch through a variety of fund raising events. Watch this space!!
Sports Relief
This year’s Sports Relief takes place on Friday 23rd March. We are currently undecided on themes for the day. Details to follow.
School Start Times
8.50 a.m. - Doors open and Registration begins in KS2.
8.55 a.m. – Doors open and Registration begins in KS1.
Please try to ensure that your child/children are at school on time
Easter Egg Assembly
In past years the junior children have brought their decorated eggs to school where they form a wonderful display as part of an assembly. This year we will be doing the same again but we would like all our children to be involved, from Nursery to Y6.
This will be held on Thursday 30th March at 10.15 a.m.
Unfortunately, due to lack of space it will not be possible for parents to attend the assembly.
The hall will be open from 8.45 a.m. for children and parents to deliver decorated eggs. The children will go into class at the normal time but the hall will remain open until 9.30 a.m. for parents to inspect the entries.
The hall will then be closed for judging!!
There will be a small prize for each class winner. Every entry will receive a small gift as a thank you for the hard work and effort put in at home.
There will be a table in the hall for any decorated eggs that parents would like to enter – with a prize of course.
I will talk to the children about the egg assembly, so they all know what to do.
