Welcome to the Barrowcliff School website

January Spring Term 1 2014 Newsletter

Dear Reader,

Happy New Year and welcome back! I do hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

On behalf of the staff I would like to thank you all for the cards and gifts that were sent in for members of staff at the end of last term.  We very much appreciate your generosity.

As you may recall at the beginning of December we held our Christmas Fair, which raised a huge £990!  Thank you for sending in items and spending at the event.  We hope to put the money towards extending the drama facilities in the school hall.

As you may have already heard, KS1 and KS2 will be working for “Barrowcliff Museum” during the next term, focussing on Natural History, Dinosaurs and Ancient Egypt.  We hope to open the school during the last week of term for you to see exhibits that the Curators, Professors and Archaeologists have put together .  We will send out details nearer the time.

World Book Day –

Thursday 6th March

To celebrate this year, once again we will be hosting a Book Stall on the Junior playground at the end of the day.  The children will be able to exchange their £1.00 book tokens for one of the specially printed books.

Of course, if you are able to get into town we would encourage you to do so.  This would enable the children to experience a book shop.

As usual, children can dress up as a favourite book character.

Book Fairs – Savings Club

As in the past, children can bring money into school on a weekly basis in order to save to buy books from the school Book Fairs that are held throughout the year. Money will be collected each week by Mrs Vickerman during morning break on Wednesday.

Parents’ Consultation Evenings

These will take place on  Monday 10th March from 5.30 p.m. – 7.30 p.m. and Wednesday 12th March from 3.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m.

PE Kit

We are always short of sports kit in school.  If you have any old football boots, shin pads, trainers, shorts etc. we would be very grateful if you could bring them into school.

Please ensure that your child has kit appropriate to this time of year.  We go outside whenever possible so tracksuit bottoms and warm jumpers are essential.

We would also be grateful for swimwear, towels etc. now that we are regularly taking the pupils swimming.

Thank you

Absence for Vomiting

Please be aware that if your child is absent because of vomiting,  he/she must have been clear for 48 hours before returning to school.

Y5 Swimming

All Y5 children will commence swimming on Tuesday 14.1.14 at  Scarborough Indoor pool.

KS2 SATS Tests

Please be aware that Y6 children will be involved in KS2 SATS Tests from 12th – 16th  May 2013.

School Start Times

Can we remind all parents of the school start times.

Classes start at 8.55 a.m.

Classes start at 8.50 a.m.

Can you please ensure that your child/children arrive at school promptly. This is one of the areas that will be examined during an OfSted inspection and we obviously want to display as positive a situation as possible. We would remind parents that children SHOULD NOT be in school grounds BEFORE 8.40 a.m.

Thank you for your help.

Can we remind all parents that the only items of jewellery allowed to be worn for school are small stud earrings.  These must be removed for sport or covered with tape. Please ensure that tape is provided.

Can we ask parents to check their child/children on a regular basis for headlice. Please help us to stop headlice becoming a major problem in school.
