Where the poppies grow

In KS1 & 2 the children will be learning about The Great War of 1914 – 1918.

As you are aware, the British Legion has been our Charity of the Year and we were proud to be selected from the Scarborough schools to take possession of the Support the Heroes flag.

We are in the process of constructing a trench on the school field and Years 5 & 6 enjoyed a visit to the Imperial War Museum on 6th June.

During the Summer holidays you may wish to explore this period or perhaps begin to research your family during this period in history.

Reading Books

Although books have been handed in, please continue to read with your child at home every day.

In September we are changing the Reading awards to:-

           10 books read – Sticker – KS2

           20 books read – Sticker – KS1

           60 books read – Bookmark

100 books read – Award and book

Maths

Please continue to practice the KIRFs the children have been doing, along with X Tables revision.  In addition, if you take the children out ask them to calculate the shopping, check the change, work out the times of buses.  When baking can the children read the scales etc.

Holiday Diary & Bag

Please collect as many memories as possible during the holidays in the bags and books for the children to share when they come back in September.

Start Dates & Times

School will re-open on Wednesday 3rd September 2014 for children in Reception and Years 1 – 6.  Nursery will begin on Wednesday 10th September.

Remember!

KS1 – classes commence at 8.55 a.m.

KS2 – classes commence at 8.50 a.m.

Please ensure that your children arrive at school promptly.

Uniform

Please remember purple jumpers and black or grey skirts or trousers.  Ensure your child’s name is clearly visible in each item of clothing, particularly school jumpers.

P.E

It is expected that ALL children have appropriate PE kit at school at all times, including sensible sports shoes.  This is very important in terms of Health & Safety and will be a focus in September.  If your child does not have appropriate footwear you will be contacted.

Spellings

From September your child will receive weekly spellings to learn, along with reading books and KIRFs as part of their homework.

School Meals Menu

You will be receiving a copy of the menu that will be in use from September.  Menus will also be displayed in all classrooms.

And Finally!!

A big thank you for your continued support and we wish you and your family a safe and happy Summer holiday.

See you in September.
