Already half way through the year! Spring is on the way! We hope you all had a good half-term break and are ready for the next half term.
As you will be aware, the children have been enjoying the theme “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, with many year groups exploring a book or film.
In addition to this newsletter you will also have received a letter from Mrs Coverdale explaining the new Space Mission Targets the children will be working towards achieving in Maths. This new system replaces KIRFS and links in to the new National Curriculum requirements. You will be able to see this in more detail in the classroom display during Parents’ evening.
Over the next half term you will see a new sand and water play area being built in the KS2 playground. This is part of the ongoing grounds work planned by Mr Johnson. As Spring approaches the B-Team will begin to design and plant their vegetable gardens, as well as beginning to care for the school grounds.
The new 5 Stars group are designing and building a fairy tale garden on the land adjacent to the pond area.
Parents’ Consultation Evenings
These will take place on Monday 9th March from 5.30 p.m. and Wednesday 11th March from 3.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m.
World Book Day
All children are invited to choose a book to talk about on World Book Day. Children have to explain why they like the book, who the characters are, why they would recommend this book etc. There will be a £5.00 book token prize awarded to the winter from each class. The prizes will be given out in assembly on Friday 6th March.
Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and bring that book with them.
To celebrate World Book Day, Foundation and KS1 will be taking part in visits to Scalby Library throughout the week.
In Reception, Y1 & Y2, parents are invited to come and share a story with their child at the end of the day. Parents/Carers can come in through the gates into KS1 playground at 2.45 p.m. and the classroom doors will be open for parents to come in and share a book until home time.
If there are any more photographs of your child or you reading, please bring them in. We are trying to cover our Library walls with photographs of us reading.
Each child will receive a World Book Day token, which they can use towards buying a book in bookstores.
Because of the success of taking Year 3 swimming, we have decided to continue with this year group until Easter. Years 4, 5 & 6 will swim in the Summer term, more details will be sent out nearer the time.
It is a legal requirement that all primary age children receive swimming lessons and it is our aim that by Year 6 ALL children can swim at least 25 metres.
If you have any spare towels and boys’/ girls’ swimwear we would be very grateful if it could be donated to school.
We are currently making a range of costumes for future themes. If anyone has any old curtains or fabrics could you please bring them into school for us to use.
Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
We are currently collecting Active Kids vouchers which are available with your shopping at Sainsbury’s. This scheme has proved very successful in the past and has provided much needed sports equipment to be used in school.
Easter Egg Competition
Once again, we are asking children to bring their decorated eggs into school, where they will form a wonderful display as part of assembly.
This will take place on Friday 27th March at 10.00 a.m.
Unfortunately, due to lack of space it will not be possible for parents to attend the assembly.
The hall will be open from 8.30 a.m. for children and parents to deliver decorated eggs. The children will go into class at the normal time but the hall will remain open until 9.30 a.m. for parents to view the entries.
The hall will then be closed for judging!!
Year 5 Production – The Wizard of Oz
This year our Year 5 children will be performing their production of the Wizard of Oz on Wednesday 25th March. Performances will be held at 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. More details will be sent our nearer the time.
