November Autumn Term 2 2013 Newsletter

Dear Reader

Here we are starting the second half of the Autumn term, with Christmas fast approaching!

We have had a wonderful start to the school year.  The children and staff settled quickly and have been working hard.

The school theme of “Snow White in New York” is proving popular.  Thank you so much for all the hard work that went into creating some outstanding outfits for our themed day.

Although we will mention some of the planned Christmas activities in this newsletter, we will send reminders nearer the end of term.

Thank you for your kind donations.  I know it is a difficult time for all but once again the amount of contributions was outstanding.  The Rainbow Centre asked me to pass on their huge thanks to you all.

I am sure you will agree that the Year 2 & 3 children produced a wonderful assembly.

As a result of the success of awarding the Attendance Cup and cakes during the

Friday Assembly, we do intend to continue with this system.  We will also be keeping a record of Attendance Scores for each class on a display board in the Hall corridor.

So far this year, the class standings in terms of winning the Attendance Cup is:

3G & 11                   Won twice

5, 10, 13, 14            Won once

We will be holding a Bookfair on Thursday 28th November 2013.

Further details will be sent out nearer the time.

 Children in Need

Friday 15th November

Although we have had a Christmas Shoe Box appeal, as well as the Poppy Appeal, we know the children enjoy this particular appeal.

To make it easy we are planning a non-uniform day but instead of asking for the usual contribution of 50p we are asking pupils to bring in copper coins so that we can make a gigantic line of coins through the school.

 Charity of the Year

The School Council has voted that the money raised this year from non-uniform days etc. will be donated to the Royal British Legion, supporting our Armed Forces and their families, both past and present.

I hope you feel that the children have made a very sensible and mature decision.

 Christmas Boxes

As you have already been informed about the Shoe Box Appeal, can I remind you that the boxes will be collected from school on Friday 15th November.

 Head Lice

In order that the whole school is in-line with the Juniors, and to help in the fight against “head lice”, ALL children with long hair MUST have it tied back when in school.

Can we please remind all parents to be aware of the problem of head lice and ensure that you check your child/children on a regular basis.  This is a problem that can affect the whole school.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

 KS2 Fruit

A reminder that KS2 children can purchase fruit on a daily basis.  All items are 20p.

 Beach Club

You may be aware that Mr Johnson and Mr Cook take 16 children down to the beach every Thursday morning for a fun fitness session. The children arrive at school at 7.40 a.m. and go down to North Bay to carry out “Boot Camp” style activities.  Over the past 8 weeks the children have worked exceptionally hard and received many comments on their dedication and enthusiasm from others on the beach.

We hope to extend this club across more year groups.

 House Points

The current standings for House Points awarded is:

Parsley                    436

Sage                        463

Rosemary               455

Thyme                    457

 Bikes & Scooters

Please be aware that bikes or scooters are not allowed to be ridden on school premises for Health & Safety reasons.

Please make sure that children are supervised closely and not allowed to ride too quickly.  It can really hurt if they crash into somebody, as has happened to one of our parents in the past.

Bikes are allowed to be ridden to school ONLY when your child has passed the Bikeability Course.

 School Jumpers/Cardigans

School jumpers and cardigans are available from the School office.

School Jumpers are £6.75

School Cardigans are £10.00

 School Meals

Can we remind parents that all school meals must be paid for in the week that they are taken.  Meals can be paid for daily.  We do not enforce a rule of paying for meals on a weekly basis.  School meals are £2.10 per day (£1.60 for Nursery)

The Admin staff will continue to take steps to ensure that meal arrears do not become a problem for parents and school.   Packed lunches will be required until any arrears are cleared.

We would ask for your co-operation, however, in order to keep payments up to date.

 School Start Times

Can we remind all parents of the school start times.

KS1      Classes start at 8.55 a.m.

KS2      Classes start at 8.50 a.m.

Can you please ensure that your child/children arrive at school promptly.

We would ask that children in Foundation and KS1 continue to be supervised by parents until the children go into class.

Thank you for your help.

Can we remind all parents that the only items  of jewellery allowed to be worn for school are small stud earrings.  These must be removed for sport or covered with tape.  Please ensure that tape is provided.

 School Website

We will continue to update the school website on a regular basis with all information relating to the school.

Please make sure you visit the website on

 Sports Clubs

The school sports clubs continue to be well supported and popular with pupils.

 Adventure Playground

Would parents please be advised that for Health & Safety reasons, the Adventure Playground in the KS2 playground is NOT to be used by children at the beginning of the school day.  It is important that children are supervised while using the playground and this can not be guaranteed at this time of day. The gates will be locked and the area must not be accessed by climbing the fence. We will inform the children via their Class Teachers but would ask for your co-operation in reinforcing the message from home.

Many thanks.

PE Kit

Once again we are requesting  your help in ensuring that your child has the required PE kit in school.  Kit should be brought into school on Monday and returned home on Friday. Please remember to provide tape to cover earrings that cannot be removed for sport.

We believe that physical education is an important part of the curriculum.  Through physical activity children will learn about themselves; the importance of a healthy lifestyle; self-expression and concepts of fair play and respect. If kit is forgotten 3 times we will send a letter home as a reminder. Kit can be very basic in terms of t-shirt and shorts.  If you are experiencing any problems please do not hesitate to contact school.

We appreciate your help and support.

Playtime Equipment

We are in  need of extra resources to use during wet playtimes.  If you have any dolls or DVD’s (U certificate) that you no longer need we would be very grateful if you could donate them to school.

 Christmas Fair

Thursday 5.12.13

The Christmas Fair will be held on Thursday 5th December.
