Governors

Our School Governing Body

Governors are a voluntary body of people who guide and support the strategic direction of the school. They are members of the school team and their contribution to the running of the school is highly valued.  They meet once a term as a full governing body and twice a term in their working party groups.

School Governing Body

The instrument of government states that the governing body shall consist of 11 members:

  • 2 parent governors
  • 1 local authority governor
  • 6 co-opted governors
  • 1 staff governor
  • 1 headteacher

The role of the governing body is a strategic one and its key functions are to:

  • Set the aims and objectives for the school
  • Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
  • Be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend)

School Governors are:
•    Parents
•    Teachers at the school
•    Non-teaching staff
•    Local council representatives
•    County Council representatives
•    Community representatives, businessmen and businesswomen

Parent Governors:
•    Have a child at the school
•    Are elected by the parents of the children in the school
•    Serve, as do other governors, for four years

Parent Governors bring the views of parents to the governing body but speak and act as individuals. They have equal status in the work of the governing body and have voting rights.

Clerk to the Governors

Our Clerk can be contacted via the school.  Please mark any correspondence for the attention of Mr Mick Prince.
