Some of our pupils may need a little extra help and this is where our Special Educational and Disability (SEND) support comes in. Each child with additional needs is offered different support tailored to meet their needs. Staff at Barrowcliff School work closely with our children, their parents and, where appropriate, outside agencies, to develop each child’s individual support package.
Our SEND Information Report outlines how we identify support and monitor the progress of our children with additional needs.
Our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) is Mrs Bridget Marshall. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mrs Marshall via the school office on 01723 351767, who will be more than happy to help.
Our SEND and Accessibility Policies are available below. If you require either of these as hard copies, please just let the office know and they will be provided free of charge.
Dyslexia Bronze Award
The school has been awarded the bronze award for dyslexia from the British Dyslexia Association. This award recognises all the hard work we put in to our school environment on a daily basis to ensure our setting is accessible to all children who have dyslexic tendencies. We are officially a dyslexia friendly school!
If you would like to know more about what this involves, please contact the school SENCO.
Chill and Chat
Barrowcliff School has a Parents Support Group which we call ‘Chill and Chat’.
We invite the parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to meet each half term to offer support in a relaxed atmosphere with a cup of coffee and a biscuit.
The agenda is set in consultation with the parent group. We have also been joined by our Educational Psychologist, Family Outreach Worker from Early Help, Inclusion Officer, Parent Partnership, Scarborough and Ryedale Carers Resource and North Yorkshire PACT who have come to tell us about their work in supporting children and families.
Please come and join us, we would love to see you. For more information please contact Mrs Marshall.
